Endometriosis Journey
A personal look at living with endometriosis — the hard parts, the recovery, and the people who made it easier to talk about.
Living With It
In a September 2015 post, Jenn opened up about her experience with endometriosis — the kind of topic that doesn't always make it into a lifestyle blog but felt important to share. She wrote about the day-to-day reality of managing a chronic condition while still trying to keep up with work, writing, and everything else life asked of her.
The post wasn't framed as medical guidance. It was one person's account of what the condition actually felt like, told in the same honest, conversational voice that runs through the rest of Party of One.
Living with a chronic condition like endometriosis means navigating a world that wasn't designed for invisible illnesses. There are days when simply getting out of bed feels like a victory, and other days when the pain makes it hard to focus on anything else. The journey involves countless doctor appointments, treatment decisions, and learning to listen to your body in new ways. What makes it bearable is finding a community of others who understand, whether through online spaces or in-person connections. Sharing these experiences openly can be intimidating, but it often leads to the most meaningful conversations and support systems.
Balancing a chronic health condition with work, social life, and personal goals requires constant adjustment. Some weeks are easier than others, and learning to be kind to yourself during the hard moments is an ongoing practice. The pressure to appear put-together while dealing with fatigue or pain behind the scenes is real, especially in a social media world that often highlights only the highlights. Writing about these struggles can feel vulnerable, but it also creates space for others to share their own stories. There is power in admitting that some days are simply harder than they look from the outside.
Endometriosis affects more than just physical health; it touches every part of daily life from career plans to relationships and self-image. The process of finding the right treatment path is rarely straightforward, often involving trial and error alongside plenty of patience. What helps is having people who show up without judgment, who listen without trying to fix everything. Small acts of self-care become essential rituals on difficult days. Over time, living with a chronic condition teaches lessons about resilience that wouldn't have been learned otherwise, and those lessons eventually become part of the story worth telling.
Surgery & Recovery
Jenn described the recovery period as its own kind of challenge, separate from the diagnosis itself. Slowing down, resting, and adjusting expectations became as much a part of the journey as the medical side of things.
Not Alone In This
Part of what Jenn hoped to do by writing about endometriosis was connect with others navigating similar health challenges. Putting a private struggle into words, publicly, was its own kind of outlet — and a way to hear back from readers dealing with the same thing.
This post sits alongside other reflective entries on the blog, including goal-setting check-ins and the move to Nashville, as part of a broader thread of documenting real life, not just the polished parts.
