Well, unfortunately I have not been near as successful as making my return to blogging as I hoped. However, it was not exactly in the plans to find a new job, quit my old job, up and move to Nashville & start a new job when I decided I would try to get back into the blog life.
Blogging is a lot of work. A lot. Coming up with content, editing the content, taking pictures, editing the pictures and in the scope of many of the posts I write finding the courage to press ‘publish’ and let the world read. Despite the effort that it’s going to take I really want to dive back into this blog for so many reasons.
- I’m in a BRAND NEW CITY. I’ve been here for a week and one day and so far I’m loving every bit of it. What better time than now to start chronicling my life (again) for the purpose of documenting this new life and keeping my family and friends updated on my life.
- Writing is good for my soul. I’ve only been in Nashville for 8 days, but, eventually it will be hard and I’ll question my decisions and I’ll have a melt down where I just want to be at home. I just know me and I know it’s inventible. Anyways, writing is very therapeutic for me and having a space where I can speak freely is important.
- For the last 3 years this blog has served me greatly in the way of CONNECTION. I’ve met some of my closest friends through blogging, reconnected with a childhood friend by way of blog (seriously, cool story!) and have had ‘blates’ with so many lovely local ladies. I’m really hoping to find that last part here again in Nashville!
I’m sure there are even more reasons than I’ve shared for me to feel inspired to keep up with blogging but that is where I’m at right now. Mainly, I want to challenge myself to document this time of HUGE change in my life. Seriously, I’m in a city where I know like 3 people (literally…) and need GPS to get every and anywhere and constantly rely on yelp to find out where I should get coffee on Saturday.
The first week of life in the Music City was honestly none too thrilling. I moved into my corporate apartment (really nice! quiet and comfortable…with an incredible garden tub. I’ve been taking full advantage of the fact that I’m not footing the water bill for 3 more weeks…). I found Target, Kroger, TJ Maxx, a nail salon, Whole Foods and some other necessities. I felt pretty settled in quite quickly & challenged myself to do at least ONE thing, even if it was a small errand, after work every day. I did that! It was good. It is good to just BE OUT.
Yesterday, Saturday, of course was the best day of the week. I got up early-ish to take my first class at one of two Barre3 studios in Nashville! It was a fabulous, sweaty and challenging class- I loved the vibe and energy of the studio. After that I did some exploring in The Gulch which led me to finding the most fabulous little, teeny tiny apartment in an apartment building in the Gulch. I toured the grounds and was in love pretty much instantly. I left feeling like THAT was where I wanted to be…only to return an hour later to sign the lease.
So, I officially (almost!) have my own apartment…my own apartment in Nashville at that!
When I decided to/envisioned/dreamed of picking up and moving to a new city…that is what I envisioned. I wanted to find a little apartment in an urban, walkable area that was full of young professionals. I think I found that. I walked from the Barre studio to the apartment and there are little shops/bars/restaurants/music venues that I can walk to ALL OVER this neighborhood. It really is what I pictured myself having when I started this crazy life change.
I rounded out a successful Saturday at dinner- Flip Burger- with a friend of a friend who lives in Nashville. I’m excited to have her here as a connection and new friend! Flip Burger was delicious! Yes, we have them in Atlanta but I had never gone before. I’m a sucker for a good burger so when Christi asked what I wanted to eat that night that was it! The highlight though…definitely the boozy milkshake. Nutella milkshake with Kahlua and toasted mini marshmallows on top. OH MY YUM. It was good and I’m craving another just thinking about it now.
I’m excited to start this week…finally getting into a busy groove at work (I hope!), dinner with my lovely cousin who lives here AND my mom is coming to visit me this weekend! Watch for a post with photos and highlights of places that I get to check out while playing tourist with her! We’re going to see Cinderella at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center on Saturday night which I’m so excited for. What would you take someone to do for their first trip to Nashville?! (She’s never been here before!) Let me know if you have ideas so I can add them to my list. Eventually I’ll have fool-proof itineraries for all my visitors 😉
I really, really hope I can make myself keep up with this blog and chronicling my adventures in Nashville!
Seriously let me know what your favorite ‘tourist destinations’ in Nashville are. Oh, and any advice about decorating a 543 square foot apartment would be greatly appreciated too 😉
Until next time!
